Last week was a little bit slower for the Newcastle boys and girls high school wrestling squads, but the junior high was going full speed.

Coach Zach Hale said, “We started off taking the high school junior varsity boys, the junior high boys and both girls’ teams over to dual Tuttle on Tuesday. Although we did not win the duals, we did see some very good things.

“We started with the junior high boys, and while they fought hard, we came away a little short, losing 48-35. Moving onto the junior varsity boys, we saw some good things, but they also fell to the Tigers.”

Hale said the junior high girls won three of their five exhibition matches and even though the high school girls won most of their matches (4 of 6), the Racers lost the dual, 48-24, due to the number of forfeits because of empty weights.

Next, the junior high boys went to the Chickasha Junior High Classic Tournament. After battling hard for two days, Newcastle came out with a handful of placers. They were: Colton Dobbs, 6th; Eason Beaty, 5th; and Rylan Rinehart, 5th.

Saturday came early for the junior varsity boys traveling to Duncan for the Demon JV Invitational but Newcastle came out with a few medals and valuable experience. Placers for the Racers were: Jake Robertson, 1st; Jackson Brooks, 3rd; Paydyn Christy,1st;Kage McLean, 2nd; EZ Duran, 1st; Yassine Deabji, 3rd; Tegan Guerra, 1st; and Aiden Steinhour, 2nd.

This week is a busy week for the Racers. Tuesday, they headed to Marlow to dual the Outlaws, who are numbber one in class 3A Duals and Tournament, then on Thursday, the Racers take on the Piedmont Wildcats. They are in the top 10 of class 6A.

This weekend is the Midwestern Conference Tournament at Shawnee FireLake arena. Hale said this is the culminating event for the junior high teams and the final tournament for the high school teams before regionals and state.
