Racers go 2-1 in basketball

Newcastle basketball hosted Cache on Friday, January 27, strolling to an easy 89-32 victory.

Chase Sucharda led Racer scoring with 22 points. He was followed closely by Carl’Sheon Young with 20 points.

Also scoring for the Racers was: Zach Cragg with 13; Connor Boydstun with eight; freshman Allen Price with 7; Antonio Brown and Nathan Ashley, seven each; Tre Martinez, Jordan Martinez, three each; and Rex Heskew with 2 points.

The Racers then beat Clinton February 3 by the score of 66-29. Scoring was spread amongst the Racer players with Young leading the way with 15 points.

Sucharda had 11 points, and Jordan Martinez and Antonio Brown had nine each. Both Nathan Ashley and Bobby Burrell had six each, and Price had four points.

The Racers then had a tougher time of things on February 4 as Weatherford beat Newcastle, 61-46.

Young again led the Racers with 24 points, composed of eight two-pointers, one threepointer, and five of six free throws.

Newcastle was scheduled to play Tuttle on Tuesday night, but because of print deadlines for the Newcastle Pacer, we were unable to report the outcome.
