County Cattlemen hold annual meeting, awards

The McClain County Cattlemen’s Association Annual Meeting was held in November, and the local cattlemen collaborated to sponsor young individuals in their endeavors through scholarships and awards.

The association presented four scholarships, valued at $1,000 each. Recipients were Lexie Owens of Wayne, Adam Owens of Wayne, Cole Scott of Washington, and Rylie Hurley of Stratford.

Additionally, the association awarded three showmanship jackets for the winners of the 2023 Spring Livestock Show Cattle Showmanship Contest and two Bred and Owned cash prizes to the winners of the 2023 Fall Free Fair.

The association also organized a scholarship fundraising event that comprised a raffle for a handmade buckboard bench, an auction for a handmade glider bench by Gary Perry from Washington, and a pie and cake auction.

Moreover, the association auctioned off the weekend use of a skid steer from OK Rents in Norman.

The success of the event was made possible by the support of sponsors, including OK Rents, Farmers Union Coop, Livestock Nutrition, Zoetis, Elanco, P&K Equipment, MWI Animal Health, Livestock Nutrition Center, Xpressions by Amy Lynn, and Ok Beef Consultants.

Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma sponsored and prepared the meal.
