NHS Band members make honor bands

Several Newcastle High School and junior high Band students auditioned for, and made honor bands this year.

Several Newcastle High School and junior high Band students auditioned for, and made honor bands this year.

They tried out for the Oklahoma Small Schools Band Directors Association All-State Band, the Southwestern Oklahoma Band Directors Association All-Region Band, and the Shortgrass Honor Band.

Making the OSSBDA All-State Band were: Payton Wolfe, first chair percussion; Braxton Cyrus, third chair bass clarinet; and Katelynn Lewis, third chair French horn.

Making the SWOBDA All-Region band were: Wolfe, first chair percussion; Lewis, first chair French horn; Camaron Richards, third chair bass clarinet; Jakob Kastens, third chair alto saxophone; and Cyrus, fifth chair clarinet.

High school students making the Shortgrass Honor Band were: Lewis, first chair French horn; Kaylin Holmes, third chair oboe; Richards, third chair bass clarinet; Wolfe, fourth chair percussion; Kastens, fourth chair alto saxophone; Jared Wickham, seventh chair trombone; Cooper Lamb, eighth chair trombone; Abby Barnes, 14th chair flute; Edalia Geiger, 16th chair clarinet; and Saydee Espinosa, 19th chair clarinet.

Thelma Amudzi made fourth chair percussion for the junior high band. Also, Hansen Boan was the fifth chair trombone and Kailynn Howsley was named eighth chair flute.
