NPS buses getting cameras

Newcastle Public Schools has installed security cameras on its buses to deter misconduct and provide information to officials when necessary.

Newcastle Public Schools has installed security cameras on its buses to deter misconduct and provide information to officials when necessary.

A statement from the school indicates that each bus is being equipped with a total of five cameras. Four will be located inside the bus and one is being located on the stop arm.

The cameras have proven to be an effective tool for districts nationwide seeking to deter misconduct on buses and can provide critical information in situations when disciplinary action may be considered, the school states.

They ask area residents to note that the cameras will not ensure the elimination of safety concerns on the buses, but they are hopeful that they can serve as an important tool. All students are expected to adhere to the bus rider expectations when being transported by buses or other district vehicles. The school states that they encourage parents and guardians to regularly review these expectations with their children. Parents with questions can call Yolanda Wilson, transportation manager, at 405-387-6432.
