Chickasaw Nation News for November 23

Chickasaw Nation News for November 23

In this week's page of Chickasaw Nation news, we have stories on Chickasaw Elder veterans taking a trip to Washington, D.C.
In a heartfelt Veterans Day ceremony, Chickasaw warriors pay tribute at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The 16 Chickasaw elder veterans, spanning service from the 1950s to the early '90s, embark on a sponsored trip to Washington, D.C., expressing gratitude for their sacrifice. The veterans' emotional journey includes memorial services, museum visits, and an unwavering camaraderie, reinforcing the warrior spirit.

In a second story, a Chickasaw family's cultural odyssey unveils deeper tribal ties.
Micah Weir and son Elliot from North Andover, Massachusetts, journey 1,700 miles to Sulphur, Oklahoma, volunteering at the Chickasaw Cultural Center. Immersed in Chickasaw heritage, they bridge the cultural gap, with Elliot transitioning from 'they' to 'we,' feeling a profound connection. The duo's service includes stomp dance participation and exploring Chickasaw history at Holisso. The transformative experience extends to language learning and cultural crafts, marking a powerful chapter in their Chickasaw identity.
