A new session of GriefShare is about to get underway February 9 at Woodland Hills Baptist Church, 313 S. Hwy. 76 in Newcastle. Morning sessions are from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. for nine weeks and the public is invited to take part.
GriefShare utilizes Psalm 147:3 to sum up the program: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” GriefShare is a support group that meets weekly, and those attending find it to be a warm, caring environment who come to see their group as an “oasis” on their journey through grief. The program is intended to offer help and encouragement after the death of a spouse, child, family member, or friend.
GriefShare was started at Woodland Hills Baptist Church in 2016 and this is their thirteenth session, according to program spokesperson Janice Garrett. GriefShare is a network of 15,000-plus churches worldwide equipped to offer grief support groups. The program is nondenominational and features biblical concepts for healing from grief.
The three key parts of GriefShare are a video seminar, the support group, and a workbook. Weekly seminar topics will include: Is this normal? Challenges of grief; The Journey of Grief - part one and part two; Grief and your relationships; Why? Guilt and anger; Complicating factors; Stuck; Lessons of grief part one and part two; Heaven; and What do I live for now?
Garrett said participants are welcome to begin attending at any point, because each session is “self-contained.”
